Timber cladding, weatherboarding, facias, fencing. Unpainted or previously with wood stains treated wooden structures. Suitable for exterior log surfaces, smooth and sawn wood surfaces, impregnated and thermally modified wood.
Tinting according to Tikkurila Valtti or Super Colors color card.
Always use a tinted product. The final color can be seen after the surface has dried.
Smooth wood: 8-12 m2/litre per coat. Sawn wood: 4-8 m2/litre per coat. Actual spreading rates will depend upon many factors including texture, porosity and moisture content of the substrate.
0.9 l, 2.7 l, 9 l and 18 l
Brush or spray.
Drying time at 23°C and 50% relative air humidity
Touch-dry after 2-3 hours and recoatable after 24 hours. Low temperature and high humidity will make drying times longer. Avoid mechanical stress for the first few days until the surface reaches its final hardness.
Approx. 22% depending upon the color.
Approx. 1.0 kg/l, ISO 2811.
Protect from frost. Poorly closed or half empty can does not withstand long-term storage.
Use the content of opened can during the same painting season as the product characteristics may vary in half-empty cans.
All surfaces to be painted must be dry, the moisture content of the wood below 20%, the temperature of the air, surface and wood finish at least +5°C , and the relative humidity of the air below 80% during painting and drying. The working properties are at their best at a calm, cloudy dry weather day with temperature +10 - + 20°C.
Clean surfaces from dirt, dust and loose material with steel or scrubbing brush. Wash moldy surfaces with Tikkurila Homeenpoisto Mould Removal according to instructions. Prime surfaces at the earliest possible stage of construction with Valtti Primer or Valtti Plus Base. Protect plants from splashes of priming oil.
Surfaces previously treated with semi-transparent product:
Remove loose material and wood turned grey with a scraper and/or steel brush. Clean the surface and wash with Homeenpoisto Mould Removal, if necessary. Prime bare wood surfaces with Valtti Primer or Valtti Plus Base. If a clear possibly gloss film remains on the wood surface, remove it or at least sand carefully.
Make sure that timber cladding, weatherboarding and timber glazing beads, etc. are adequately fastened with non-corrosive fixings. Valtti Akvacolor is not recommended for use with linseed oil putty.
For sealing the window pane and window frame interface, use good quality non-setting glazing compounds, which form a protective skin, in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions. Particular attention with regards to preparation should be given to wood such as Oak, Teak, Cedar, Douglas Fir, Mahogany and Idigbo, etc. which contain oil and water soluble tannin which may impair the drying, hardening or adhesion of surface coatings.
In as early construction stage as possible a priming coat of Valtti Primer or Valtti Plus Base should be applied to all exterior wood, which has not been pre-treated or vacuum impregnated with an approved wood preservative. Apply liberally on end grain.
Reserve enough tinted Valtti Akvacolor for one uniform surface, mixed in one can, to avoid possible colour differences. Stir thoroughly before and during use. Apply Valtti Akvacolor evenly and continuosly along the length of a log or few boards to avoid overlapping. Apply liberally on the end grain.
Apply two coats, on sawn and log surfaces thin coats. Always use a tinted product for the treatment of a new surface.
Check the condition of the treated surface and make maintenance treatment when necessary. The maintenance interval is affected by the location, point of compass and weather conditions.
Check the condition of the timber and the functionality of the log structure before applying the finishing coat. See more information at:
Cleaning of tools
Clean with water and soap immediately after use. Rinse with water. Tikkurila Pensselipesu (Tool Cleaner) is recommended for removal of hardeded finish.
Handle the treated surface with care as the product achieves its final hardness in normal conditions in about 4 weeks. If cleansing is needed soon after treatment, use a soft brush, a mop or a damp cleaning cloth. Earliest after 1 month from painting a soiled surface can be cleansed with Talon Huoltopesu
(1 part of Talon Huoltopesu to 10 parts of water). Clean stains and dirty surfaces with a stronger mix of Huoltopesu and water (1:1). Rinse well and allow to dry.
