The composter is designed for biodegradable waste. Do not put anything in the composter that will hinder the composting process or will not form compost, such as:
Filling
Empty the contents of the organic waste bin into the composter. The larger the pieces of waste you put into the compost, the longer it will take to decompose.
If you are using a biodegradable bag, empty its contents into the composter first, but put the bag in separately.
Always cover the waste with Biolan Litter for Compost and Dry Toilets. A suitable amount is usually about 1/3–1/2 of the amount of waste placed. Use more litter for wet waste.
Continue filling as new waste is generated. Refill the composter with waste several times a week. This is especially important during the winter.
When the temperature of the composter is higher than the outside temperature, turn the inlet air valve regulator on the front of the unit to maximum to allow oxygen from the outside air to enter the composter. Monitor the temperature of the composter and the outside air. If the compost mass is about to freeze, adjust the valve to a smaller opening.
Use the Compost Mixer to loosen the compost mass to about 20–30 cm from the top. Loosening is not mandatory with each filling. The more litter you use, the less loosening will be required.
Do not stir the composter all the way to the bottom, so as not to mix the cooled bottom layer with the rest of the compost mass.
Emptying
The Quick Composter 550 must be emptied throughout the year. Emptying increases the temperature of the mass.
Empty the composter when it is almost full.
In winter, empty the composter more often than in the warm season. In the warm season, empty no more than half of the entire contents, but in winter, empty smaller portions at a time.
Open the emptying hatch and remove the mass through the bottom, for example with a shovel.
Complete the process using the Emptying Assistant. Clean the emptying hatches and the edges of the emptying opening separately.
Also clean under the liquid separation plate and make sure the filtrate hose is not clogged.
If the removed mass is quite wet, place a couple of shovels of Biolan Litter Compost and Dry Toilets in the base of the composter.
Close the emptying hatch.
Use a Compost Stirrer or shovel to push the mass down from the top of the device. This is easier to do starting from the corners. Be careful not to damage the air channel in the middle of the composter. Empty the filtrate tank as needed.
