Description
Quick-drying anti-corrosion primer. Rostex Super Metal Primer does not contain lead or chromate pigments.
Product features
Rostex Super Metal Primer is suitable for priming of steel, zinc-coated steel or roughened aluminum surfaces subject to heavier stress than usual and where the adhesion of normal alkyd primers is not sufficient enough or their drying time is too long.
Suitable also for copper, brass and stainless steel surfaces as well as steel sheet coated with Pural, Polyester, Acrylic and outworn PVC-coatings. Can be used as a primer for alkyd paints (Miranol, Unica, Panssarimaali) as well as for waterborne paints (e.g. Panssari Akva).
Only for professional use.
Recommended uses
Sheet metal roofs, gutters, down pipes, cinder sheets, fire escapes, railings, flagpoles, drying racks, boats, and other steel constructions.

APPLICATION DETAILS
Application conditions
The surface to be painted must be dry and warmer than the surrounding air, the temperature of the air at least +5°C, and the relative humidity of the air below 80 %. In these conditions the drying considerably slows down and the recoatable time is extended. The temperature of the surface to be painted may not exceed +40°C, because otherwise the solvent evaporates too quickly and porosity, weakening of adhesion, blistering etc. will occur.
Plan your painting work so that you can finish it within 4 days. When the temperature decreases and/or humidity increases, the recoatability time will get longer. (see the Table)
Preparation
Unpainted surfaces:
Remove possible white rust/ rust with a scraper and steel brush (to St2 degree) Clean water soluble white rust protective agent, dirt, water soluble salts, oil and grease from unpainted surfaces with Panssaripesu Roof Cleaning Agent and brush. Rinse thoroughly with water and allow to dry. Roughen smooth aluminium surfaces.
New zinc-coated sheet metal roof is recommended to be painted earliest after one winter. Best adhesion is achieved to already faded, mechanically or chemically roughened zinc-coated surface.
Previously painted surfaces:
Remove loose paint and possible rust with a scraper or steel brush (to St2 degree). Smooth the edges between the cleaned surface and the solid paint film. Wash the surface with Panssaripesu Roof Cleaning Agent, rinse thoroughly with water and allow to dry.
Painting
Stir the paint well before use.
Apply with either brush or spray. The recommended dry-film thickness for single coats is 40-60 µm (micrometer). The finishing coat can be either e.g.water-borne Panssari Akva or solvent-borne Panssarimaali.
Cleaning of tools
Clean tools with Thinner 1120 or with Tikkurila Pensselipesu.
Maintenance instructions
After painting the surfaces must be handled with care, because the paint will achieve its final hardness and durability after 4 weeks under normal conditions. Soon after the treatment the surface can be cleaned lightly with a soft brush, damp cleaning cloth or mop. At the earliest 1 month after painting, dirty surfaces can be cleaned with Tikkurila Huoltopesu (1 part Huoltopesu, 10 parts water). Clean stains and very dirty surfaces with a stronger solution of Huoltopesu (1:1). After washing rinse surfaces and allow to dry.
