APPLICATION DETAILS
Application conditions
The surface to be painted must be dry, the temperature at least +5 °C and the relative humidity of the air below 80 %. (Note: Drying in these marginal conditions is slower than under standard conditions i.e. +23oC, relative humidity 50 %.) Especially dark shades tinted with Avatint colourants dry very slowly.
Preparation
Unpainted surfaces:
Clean dirt, dust, rust, oil and grease etc. from the surfaces.
Prime wood surfaces with Jehu Primer or with Otex Adhesion Primer. Interior metal surfaces in dry conditions can be painted directly with Miranol. In other cases, Rostex Super Metal Primer is recommended as a primer. Prime zinc surfaces and aluminium surfaces with Rostex Super Metal Primer. Roughen aluminium surfaces by sanding before priming.
Previously painted surfaces:
Wash down surfaces with Maalipesu Cleaning Agent and rinse carefully with water and allow to dry. Remove loose paint with a scraper and sand the whole surface. Remove sanding dust. Fill holes and cracks with Spakkeli Alkyd Filler. Prime/undercoat surfaces in poor condition with Jehu or with Otex.
When you paint with bright red or yellow colours, prime wood surfaces with Jehu, tinted to a similar colour as the finishing paint. Zinc, steel or aluminium surfaces should be primed with Rostex Super light grey.
Painting
Stir Miranol well before use and thin for brush application, if needed, with White Spirit 1050, and with Spray thinner 1032 for spray application. Apply Miranol by brush or spray 1-2 times.
Cleaning of tools
Clean tools with White Spirit 1050 or Tikkurila Pensselipesu (Tool Cleaner).
Maintenance instructions
Cleaning earliest approx. 1 month after painting: The surfaces are cleaned with a soft brush, sponge or cleaning cloth and neutral (pH 6-8) dish washing solution. Clean very dirty surfaces with weakly alkaline (pH 8-10) washing detergent using a cleaning cloth or sponge. Rinse the surface carefully.
The product achieves its final hardness and durability after one month under normal conditions, therefore the surfaces must be handled with care during a couple of weeks. If the surfaces need to be cleaned soon after finishing, clean them lightly with a soft brush or damp cleaning cloth.
Maintenance treatment
Surfaces painted with Miranol can be recoated with similar kind of solvent-borne paint. See Preparation.
