PRODUCT FEATURES

Interior and exterior painting of new and previously painted or lacquered wood surfaces and primed metal surfaces. Ideal for maintenance painting of industrially painted, lacquered and with translucent finish treated surfaces.
RECOMMENDED USES Wooden and metal window frames (not powder-coated aluminium surfaces), doors, frames and garden furniture, also suitable for wooden panel surfaces of glazed balconies.

Base paints A and C
Colour Range White A-base paint can be used as such or tinted according to Tikkurila Wooden Facades colour card. Also colours from Symphony colour card. C-base is colourless and has always to be tinted before use. Tinted product can not be changed.

Synthetic fiber brush or short-napped roller, smoothing with brush

Conventional spray:

-nozzle 1.4-1.8 mm,  thinning 0-10 vol-%

Airless spray:

-nozzle 0.009˝-0.013˝, thinning 0-5 vol-%

 
Drying time at 23°C and 50% relative air humidity Dust-dry after 0,5 hours and recoatable the following day.

Ready to use hardness after 2-3 days.


 
Solids volume approx. 40 % depending on color.
Density approx. 1.20 kg/l depending on colour, ISO 2811.
Storage Protect from frost. Poorly closed or half empty can does not withstand long term storage.
APPLICATION DETAILS
Application conditions The surface to be painted must be dry, the temperature of the air at least +5º C, and the relative humidity of the air below 80 % during painting and drying.
Preparation Remove weathered grey wood surface mechanically. 
Untreated surface: 
Clean untreated wood surface from dirt, mould and loose particles. Wash surfaces with Maalipesu Cleaning Agent or with Homeenpoisto Mould Removal, if necessary. Remove loose resin from wood knots and seal knots on interior surfaces with Oksalakka knotting lacquer. Prime bare exterior wood surfaces with Valtti Akvabase or Valtti Base.To prevent possible seepage from bare wood surface priming of exterior sufaces with Öljypohja and interior surfaces with Jehu is recommended.
Wash metal surfaces with Maalipesu or Panssaripesu Roof Cleaning Agent. Remove possible rust. Prime exterior metal surfaces with Rostex Super Akva or Rostex Super Metal Primer and interior metal surfaces with Rostex Super Akva or Otex. 
NB! If Otex is used as a primer, final adhesion to primer is achieved after 
2 weeks from finishing. During this time avoid e.g. attaching masking tape on the painted surface. 

Previously painted surface: 
Remove loose paint and putty from previously painted surface. Wash wood surfaces with Maalipesu or Homeenpoisto, if necessary, metal surfaces with Maalipesu or Panssaripesu. Sand glossy surfaces matt and round sharp corners. Remove sanding dust. 
Interior wooden surfaces: fill holes and cracks with Presto Furniture Filler or Rapid Filler and sand the filled areas. 
Treat exterior bare wood surfaces with Valtti Akvabase or Valtti Base. 
Prime worn out exterior wood surfaces with Öljypohja or Ultra Primer. Priming is recommended for bare wood surfaces to reduce possible seepage through the paint film. Prime bare metal surfaces with Rostex Super Akva or Rostex Super. Prime previously industrially painted metal surfaces with Rostex Super. Apply Presto Window Putty for window frames after priming. Note! Unica Akva can't be applied on top of silicone putties or on surfaces contaminaned with silicone. 
Painting When you paint with bright red, yellow or orange Unica Akva, prime the surface first with a light primer or similar color to the finish. Suitable primers have been listed above. 
Stir Unica Akva thoroughly before use. Apply with brush, roller or spray 2 times. On large surfaces it is best to apply the paint first with a short-napped roller and then smoothed out with a brush. Do not let the edges of the paint stripe get dry. Unica Akva can be thinned for brush application with max. 5 % of water. 
The paint dries quickly and it is recommended to do the work in strips. The best application tools are synthetic fiber brushes that have multi-branched bristles. 
On window surfaces the paint should be applied 1-2 mm on the glass. Treat visible wood end- grains carefully. 
There is resin and other coloring extractives in the wood, particularly in knots. They may cause discoloration or seepage of resin through the paint surface as a result of temperature and humidity fluctuations.
Cleaning of tools Remove excess paint from the tools. Wash them with soap and water. Tikkurila Pensselipesu is recommended for removal of hardened paint.
Maintenance instructions The product achieves its final hardness and durability after approx. 
4 weeks under normal conditions, therefore the surfaces must be handled with care during this time. If the surfaces need to be cleaned soon after finishing, clean them lightly with a soft brush, damp cleaning cloth or mop. 

At the earliest after approx. 1 month from finishing the surfaces can be cleaned with Huoltopesu (1 part Huoltopesu in 10 parts of water). Very dirty surfaces and stains can be cleaned with a stronger Huoltopesu solution (1:1). After washing rinse and let dry.
